Our Reunion Story
This reunion is a chance for descendants of George "Big Poppa" and Tempie "Big Momma" Smith to come together, learn our history, and strengthen family bonds.
The 2026 Smith Family Reunion is more than a gathering — it is a return to where our family story began.
This year, we come together in Montgomery, Alabama, while intentionally reconnecting with our deep roots in Tuskegee. Our ancestors, George “Big Poppa” Smith and Tempie “Big Momma” Smith, were born there and raised their family there. Carrie Belle Drummer also spent a significant part of her life in Tuskegee. These roots are the foundation of our family’s history, resilience, and legacy.
This reunion welcomes all descendants of George “Big Poppa” and Tempie “Big Momma” Smith, and the families of Lawrence “LD” Drummer and Carrie Belle Drummer. We especially gather in unity as the descendants of Larshie Bell, Alfonso “Bud,” Nathaniel “Kirk,” George “Sweetman,” and Louisa — honoring each branch that continues this family story.
Throughout the weekend, we will walk the same grounds that shaped generations before us. From exploring Tuskegee University to visiting the homes of Booker T. Washington and George Washington Carver, we honor the spirit of education, perseverance, and excellence that has influenced our family’s journey.
But this reunion is not only about the past — it is about strengthening the present and investing in our future. We will share meals, laughter, learning, and reflection. The Financial Fitness session reminds us that building a legacy also means building stability for generations to come.
The riverboat cruise, fellowship time, and moments of worship bring balance — joy, gratitude, and togetherness. Each activity is designed to reconnect us, deepen our understanding of where we come from, and create new memories that will create traditions.
This reunion is a celebration of faith, family, heritage, and continuity. We gather not just as relatives, but as a living legacy.
